Abacus AI Desktop · plain-English guide

Hand the boring computer work to an assistant that lives on your desktop.

It's a small app for Windows and Mac. It opens your own files — receipts, reports, forms, call notes — works through the tedious part step by step, and tells you when it's done. You explain the job the way you'd explain it to a colleague. No commands to memorise.

  • It asks before it touches your files, and again before anything is deleted.
  • Your documents are never used to train AI models.
  • Encrypted in transit and at rest, with SOC-2 Type-2 and HIPAA compliance.

This is an independent promotional page, not the vendor's website. We may earn a commission if you subscribe through our link — the price you pay is the same.

Sound familiar?

It isn't the work. It's the twenty small steps around it.

None of this is difficult. All of it is annoying. And all of it happens on your computer.

The same numbers, typed again

A PDF says one thing, the spreadsheet needs it retyped, and you're the one doing the retyping. Four times a month.

“Wait — what did we agree?”

The call ends, everyone nods, nobody wrote it down. An hour later you're reconstructing it from memory.

Hunting for the answer you already have

The information exists — in a contract, a form, an old email. Finding it takes longer than using it.

An hour of tidying, every evening

Renaming files, merging exports, making the one clean sheet your boss actually reads. Unpaid overtime, basically.

What it is, honestly

Three sentences, no jargon.

01 — It's an app, not a website

It installs on your computer

Not a chat window in a browser tab. It runs on your desktop, which is why it can open the files that are already there — the folder with the invoices, the downloads full of statements.

02 — It's an agent, not a chatbot

It takes steps, not just questions

Ask a chatbot for a summary and it gives you text. Give this a job and it opens the files, reads them, compares what's inside and produces the finished thing — then shows you what it did.

03 — You stay in charge

Permission first, always

It can't wander through your disk. You grant access, it works inside that, and anything destructive — deleting, overwriting — has to be confirmed by you before it happens.

Everyday jobs

Three things it takes off your desk

Described in ordinary terms, because that's how most people will use it.

Paperwork

Receipts, statements and exports, turned into one clean file

Point it at the folder. It reads the PDFs and spreadsheets, lines the numbers up against your budget, flags what looks wrong, and writes a single sheet you can send. The checking is still yours — the copying and pasting isn't.

Illustration: three messy document cards on the left becoming one tidy summary card on the right.
Meetings

Notes taken while you're actually listening

The listener sits in your call, writes down what was said, and pulls out the decisions and the things somebody promised to do. Afterwards you can ask it questions — “what did we say about the deadline?” — instead of rewinding a recording.

Illustration: a conversation turning into a written list of decisions.
Answers

Questions answered from your own documents

Compliance forms, questionnaires, proposals: the answers are usually sitting in your own folders already. It searches them, drafts the replies, and leaves the wording for you to approve before anything is sent.

Illustration: a question card, a folder of documents, and a draft answer. Which policy covers…?

Also in the box: a coding agent with a command-line tool and a VS Code extension for people who write software, and access to more than a hundred AI models — chat, image and video — inside the same app, so you're not paying for five separate subscriptions.

What it won't do

Four promises it deliberately doesn't make.

Any software page that only lists advantages is selling, not explaining. These are the limits that matter when the tool is sitting on your own computer.

It won't open your files on its ownAccess is granted by you, folder by folder. It works inside what you've allowed and nowhere else.
It won't delete anything quietlyAnything destructive — removing files, overwriting — needs your confirmation first.
It won't train on your documentsThe vendor states your data is never used to train models and is encrypted at all times.
It won't replace your judgementIt produces a draft, not a guarantee. Read the output before it goes to a client or an accountant.

Worth saying plainly: this is a young category. The agent is good at structured, repetitive work on files it can read, and it can still be confidently wrong about the details. People who get the most out of it start with one boring task they understand well.

How it goes

Three steps, and the third one is just talking.

Step one

Install it from the official page

One download for Windows or Mac. You'll need an account with the vendor — the app is part of their subscription, not a separate purchase.

Step two

Give it a folder

Choose where it's allowed to look: the invoices folder, a project directory, a set of statements. That permission is the boundary it works inside.

Step three

Describe the job in your words

“Combine these receipts into one sheet and flag anything over budget.” It plans the steps, asks when it's unsure, and shows you the result.

There's nothing to configure before your first job, and no prompt library to study. If you can explain the task to a new colleague, you can explain it to this.

The money part

What it costs, in full.

Included for the price

  • The desktop app: the file-working agent plus the meeting listener
  • The coding agent, command-line tool and VS Code extension
  • Access to 100+ AI models — text, image and video — in the same window
  • No use of your documents for model training; encrypted storage
  • Cancel from inside the app, no phone call required

Heavier agent use sits on a higher tier: the entry tier keeps the agent and the desktop app to a limited number of tasks, the upgrade removes that limit. The exact price you'll pay is always shown on the vendor's checkout page.

Questions people actually ask

Straight answers

Do I need to be technical to use it?

No. The whole interaction is explaining a job in ordinary language. If you can describe what you want to a colleague — “take these three files and give me one table” — you can use it. The technical parts (a command line, an editor extension) exist for people who want them, and you can ignore them entirely.

Which computers does it run on?

The desktop app is built for Windows and Mac, and the command-line tool also runs on Linux. System requirements and installers live on the vendor's download page, which is where the button on this page takes you — check them there for your machine before subscribing.

Is there a free version?

Not for the desktop agent as described here: it's part of a paid subscription, with the first month reduced to $7 at the time of writing. There may be a limited trial or a lower tier offered on the vendor's site, but we don't promise one — the page will show you what's actually available.

What happens to my files and my data?

The vendor states that your data is never used to train models and stays encrypted, with SOC-2 Type-2 and HIPAA compliance for business use. On your side, the agent works inside the folders you explicitly allow, and confirms before doing anything destructive.

Practical advice: start with a copy of a folder rather than the only version of something important.

How do I cancel, and what happens after?

Inside the app: open the account menu in the top-right corner, go to your profile, then Billing and Invoices. Cancellation lives there. Your access runs to the end of the billing month you've already paid for, and then the renewal simply doesn't happen.

Who publishes this page?

This guide is published by an independent publisher, not by Abacus.AI. It is promotional content for a product the publisher does not own. The download button leads to the vendor's own page, where the purchase actually happens.
